3 Steps To Softer, Smoother Skin

3 Steps To Softer, Smoother Skin

My obsession with willing the perfect non-dimpled thighs into existence has manifested in a number of ways throughout the years: I’ve massaged, rolled, kneaded, and wrapped. I’ve slapped my thighs with a ruler (upon the suggestion of a magazine when I was 16), with the enthusiasm of a middle school principal back in the day. I’ve applied countless creams, potions, and (as it turned out) non-magic potions. I’ve tried a few promising treatments too; treatments that were effective as long as I continued to dole out mucho dinero, molto soldi,  beaucoup d’argent… a shit load of cash, every month to keep my thighs giving off the illusion of being dimple-free.

That’s too much maintenance — even for me.

Eventually, I conceded to living a holy life focused on preserving the dimples on my cheeks instead of eliminating the ones on my ass.

But recently — cuz I ain’t no quitter — I’ve once again taken up my old hobby of cellulite-control hoping that thirty-third time’s the charm. And although I haven’t seen any disappearing dimples, I have noticed the skin on my body is seriously feeling softer and smoother due to my 3-step system of daily exfoliation.

Step One

Dry Brushing: For me, dry brushing isn’t really ripe with the hope of reducing cellulite. Sadly, no topical procedure can get rid of that. But it offers other benefits like removing dead skin, stimulating your lymphatic system, and helping with circulation — among other things. (I got into the details here.) I love doing it and I love it makes my skin feel. I haven’t been consistent with it in the past, but I just had a birthday, and it’s time to up the ante.

I do this outside the shower on dry skin using the technique I describe here.

Step Two

Exfoliating glovesI recently posted my collection of exfoliating paraphernalia on my Instagram stories (@sochickie) and these gloves are one of my favorites from the collection. After Isloughed off some dead skin, it’s time to polish. I use the gloves with whatever shower gel I’m using at the time focusing on the really dry patches, like elbows and heels. I use them on my chest lightly, but not on the neck or face.

If you skip the dry brushing because of lack of time, this is a good way to get your exfoliation in. I have several pairs of these on rotation so when I throw one pair in the wash, I have a spare.

Step Three

Donell AHA 20 Body Tingle Exfoliating Body Moisturizer: This stuff is…well, you know the praise hands emoji? If you don’t, google it. That’s how I describe this product. (You get serious reviews here, Chickies.) It has 20% Glycolic acid, and it means business! This body lotion is amazing to soften and exfoliate the skin. You will feel a tingle and if you have an open wound or scratch, DO NOT apply it there.

Also, a little goes a long way. I got mine on Amazon.

There you have it, my 3-step system for softer, smoother skin. I’ll report back on the dimple situation. Keep your fingers crossed.

Now you: Any tips or products you love that get your skin softa and smooth? Share the youth!

xoxo

Ah – I can’t wait to check it out. As you know I’m in the midst of testing the nuface BODY for cellulite diminishing because I’ve loved what the nuface trinity does on my face. I use Alpha Skincare Glycolic AHA 12% on my body and it’s totally altered my hatred of my baggy knees – but 20%?! I’m in!! Just a separate note (because I was replacing my nuface trinity which I dropped and broke after owning it for 12 years!) that the Skinstore.com is having a July sale (until Monday) I think. Eligible items are 25% off with code USA AND Ebates currently has them at 8% cashback AND…there is a special on Nuface so the device that would normally cost $325 is $260 (I think all nuface is currently 20% off). In case you’re a skincare/device junkie like me (which I know at least SOME of your readers must be!!) Putting the donell in my cart now!

OK, you must report back on the cellulite one. I actually just purchased another Nuface at the Sephora sale because the first one I bought never worked and I waited too long to return it. But if the body one works, I’m getting it! Question: How will we have time for anything other than personal maintenance in our lives? We’re fulltime jobs!!
